The ITF –internationale touristische Friedensfahrt – known internationally as the ‘Course de la Paix’ is a European stage tour for active cyclists. The first tours took place between 1984 and 1990 on the paths of the original race course between Berlin-Prague-Warsaw, known as ‘Friedensfahrt’, the former amateur race of the east, a pendent to the Tour de France. Later these stage tours were continued in memory of the original race. Up to now, Moscow, Königsberg, Budapest, Strasbourg, Vienna, Copenhagen, Gdansk, St.Petersburg, Istanbul, Rome, Naples, Paris, Barcelona, Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Athens, Ljubljana, Split and the Volga as well as Oslo, Stockholm, Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Santiago de Chile were headed to by 50 to 200 participating cyclists yearly always starting from Potsdam or Berlin.

Since 1982 the ITF has been prepared and setting off in Potsdam – since 1993 in conjunction with Berlin – with the help of the cities and friends from Potsdam, Berlin, Caputh, Hildesheim, Wetter (NRW), Gladenbach, Saalfeld, Munich, Neubrandenburg, Leipzig and various other regions of Germany as well partners from Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, France, Lithuania, Denmark, Turkey, Estonia, Finland, Bulgaria, Latvia, Spain, White Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Greece, Argentina and Chile.

The ruling mayors of Berlin and the ministerial presidents of Brandenburg or rather Brandenburg’s minister together with the Department of Foreign affairs have actively brought forward the continuity of this country connecting sportive event.
